Qeseq
Totem Pole
Public
Art is one use of Tax Revenue, and it is also an opportunity
to share our culture with visitors.
The
pole was designed by Clarence Dick Jr. based on the legend
of Qeseq.
Clarence
and Fabian Quocksister carved the pole on site at our
Band Office to the delight of staff and visitors.
We
unveiled the pole at our 3rd Annual Open House, June 24,
2006.

Hayasen
Playground
The
playground has been a community driven project, spearheaded
by David Dick. Kate-Lyne Joseph won the naming contest, with
'Hayasen' which means 'to play' in theLekwungen
language.
The
playground is open to all residents of Songhees and their guests.

Drainage
Improvements
In
2005, our drainage system was re-designed to collect the
water as it moves from the high end of Cooper Lane towards
the lower end at Craigflower and Admirals Roads.

New
sidewalks were added to Cooper Road to improve pedestrian
safety and reduce speed.

Each
year we invite our residents, neighbors, service providers and
friends to join us in a celebration of our Community.

At
our 3rd Annual Open House, June 24, 2006 we held a grand
opening for the Bylaw Office and Youth Centre, and unveiled
the Qeseq Totem Pole.

Grand Opening

Bylaw Office / Youth Centre
We
renovated a portable building to create our new Bylaw
Office.
We
were able to partner with funding for youth initiatives
and include a new Youth Centre in the building.

Bear
Totem
Songhees
Taxation contributed to the purchase and installation of
the Bear Pole by Barry Sam and Smokey Sam.
The
Bear Pole was unveiled April 25, 2006. The Pole is Dedicated
to Our Elders and Fallen Warriors.
